Do you feel that the modern line is cheeper? I don't know, the clothing is still amazing, but it seems the accessories are really unrealistic...but I think they are really geared to kids, and not necessarily collector material. Maybe I am just a snob. Perhaps it's mattel? I actually remember as a kid getting the computer and desk set, it looked so realistic. But now every think is too fantastical.

It does seem to be headed down Barbie Avenue, doesn't it? Whereas the accessories in the Historical line seem realistic, the AGT accessories have just gone plastic lately. It makes items more durable for play, but less desirable for collecting due to the lack of realism.

I agree with both if you guys I like the Historical Line better rather then AGT, it kind of cheap. Historical Line is more realistic.

I will collect AG Today for DD. She plays with her stuff. And needs the durablility. I do love the outfits. But the accessories are really plastic!!! I posted an album of the new birthday set. I was so displeased...but DD will love it. Except the cake. I may have to permanently attach those two boxes together!!! LOL

I will collect for the Historical line. I love everything about it!

the thing is, there just aren't that many real accessories for the AGT's like there are for the historicals. The AGT's have mostly outfits, which I have really started to love, and I think the accessory pieces that come with each outfit are adorable. Like the bowling items, the pins, the ball and the bag. I love the baking accessories. The bridesmaid accessories are also very cute.

I'm not sure I care for the current bathtub, but I do love the vanity set. We got all the pieces of the Talent show set, and I think they're a little corny, but my daughter thinks they're great. She also reminded me today that her friend has the bathtub and she doesn't. Hint hint.

I like the snowboard stuff and we have the bike that was discontinued last year. Also like the soccer items and I think the hat and boots that come with the riding outfit are lovely.

All in all, I think they do a good job.

I just wish they'd come out with some food for the AGT's again, not just cake, especially card board cake. And as much as I love some of the historical lunch items, I think they are WAY to small in scale for the dolls. I prefer the size of Bitty's picnic set. How could the 18" dolls items be so much smaller than 15" Bitty?

I think the AGT's need new accessories that aren't just all about hair and makeup that seems to be the current path, and get back to more school related items.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I TOTALLY agree with you, Laurie! I remember when the line first came out, seeing all of the school stuff and thinking it was so cool because I'd never seen anything like that before.

The AGT's DO need a wider variety of accessories that are available to them. That's one the most enchanting things about the historical line, to me anyway. That's part of what makes American Girl so special.

I agree, I wish they would make some of the stuff like they used to again....the school lunch, school table with blue chairs, school chalkboard/map, the camping utensils (the smores look so cute!), slumber party stuff, etc.
I wish I had all of those things!!
